E-19's Log-O-Meter

As you seasoned veterans know, each year we visually track the flow using our Log-O-Meter, an accumulation of logs near Rock Creek's three mile marker that have bridged themselves over the years providing a pictorial measuring stick for each year's runoff. The attached pic, taken this morning by our own Marvelous Michelle, shows Rock Creek flowing @ 1,200 cubic feet per second. When the runoff gets really underway, the Creek's water level will dramatically increase. When the flow increases to 2,000 cfs, the water level just touches the bottom of the spanning log and, in high water years, when it overflows the top of the log the water flow is ripping along at 5,000 cfs as it did last year (near flood stage for those downstream).

Like each morning's daybreak, each year's runoff story is a different one and, right now, we are just in the early chapters of this year's book.
